Accepted proofs of identity

To get any University of Illinois photo ID, you must present one form of physical identification listed on this page. We do not accept digital IDs, or copies or photos of IDs. The full name shown on your proof of identity must match the name on your record in Banner. Any legal name changes or corrections must first be made through the appropriate office.

All proofs of identity must be current or no more than one year expired, and they must include a recognizable photo of you.

Passports and passport cards

• U.S. passport
• U.S. passport card
• Foreign passport

Government and Consular ID cards

• Enhanced Tribal Card
• Global Entry Card
• Matricula Consular (Mexican Consulate) card

Citizenship and immigration documents

• I-551 Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) or Alien Registration Card
• I-766 Employment Authorization
• I-197 U.S. Citizen ID Card

Canadian and United States ID cards

• Driver's license or learner's permit issued by a state or territory of the United States
• Driver's license or learner's permit issued by a Canadian province or territory
• ID card issued by a U.S. state or territory
• ID card issued by a Canadian province or territory
• U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document
• U.S. or Canadian military ID
