Photo requirements

Your i‑card is for official identification. i‑card photos must meet all of the listed requirements. Once your photo is approved it cannot be changed, and you must claim your i‑card at an ID Center within six months.

The photo file

  1. Cannot be a photo of a photo.
  2. Does not exceed 1000 pixels in each dimension.
  3. Must be square (height must equal width).
  4. Must be in full color in JPEG (.jpg) file format.

The background

  1. Use a well-lit setting and avoid unnatural lighting, glare, and shadows.
  2. Stand in front of a plain, untextured, solid, light-colored background.
  3. Make sure there aren't other objects or persons in the photo.

Your body and face

  1. Face the camera straight-on and centered in the photo frame.
  2. Capture only from the top of your shoulders to the top of your hair.
  3. Your eyes must be open and your face must be in focus.
  4. No sunglasses, head coverings, or hats.
  5. No silly poses, facial expressions, or filters.
  6. Your photo must reflect your current appearance, taken within the last six months.

SubmitMyPhoto Terms of Use

By submitting a photo image through the SubmitMyPhoto website, you are agreeing to these terms of use. If you do not accept these terms, please do not proceed with submitting your photo. If you choose not to proceed, you will be required to visit an ID Center to have your photo taken.

How we will use your photo

The photo you submit via SubmitMyPhoto, if approved, will be used to produce your i‑card. By submitting this photo, you agree this photo may be used for University of Illinois System purposes.


University of Illinois does not guarantee uninterrupted access to SubmitMyPhoto. We cannot guarantee that SubmitMyPhoto will be compatible with any specific hardware or software. We reserve the right to suspend access to this website at any time.

Approval of digital photos will be based on the requirements. Photos are reviewed during ID Center business hours only. Please allow sufficient time for processing or take your photo at an ID Center for immediate card printing.

If you do not pick up your i‑card at an ID Center within six months of your photo's approval, your photo will be deleted. You will have to restart the photo submission process if you're still eligible.

We reserve the right to withhold a printed i‑card if the previously approved photo does not reflect your current appearance. Submitting a photo other than your own or that contains offensive or lewd gestures may result in disciplinary action.

SubmitMyPhoto is provided by i‑card Programs. We may update these terms without notice, and any changes will be effective immediately.
