University Identification Number (UIN)
 

 

The University Identification Number (UIN) is the primary identification element for individuals associated with the University (for example, faculty, staff, and students). The UIN is unique across the entire University of Illinois enterprise.

UIN Eligibility


UINs will be assigned to a population that includes, but is not limited to:
  • Admitted and enrolled students; and
  • All paid employees

UINs may be assigned to a population that includes, but is not limited to:
  • Student and employee applicants;
  • Non-degree seeking students;
  • Visiting faculty/guest lecturers;
  • Faculty and staff retirees;
  • Vendors;
  • Students of the University of Illinois Laboratory High School ("Uni High");
  • Participants in University sponsored programs;
  • Alumni of the University of Illinois
  • Employees of University Related Organizations (UROs)
    (Examples of UROs are: Prairieland Energy Incorporated, the Alumni Association, and the University of Illinois Foundation.); and
  • Others as necessary or deemed appropriate for the University and the individual party.

Getting a UIN


Students and employees are assigned UINs through standardized admissions and hiring processes, respectively. No further action is required for these automatic processes.

Special populations may need to submit the Request for UIN (PDF).

If you have already been issued a UIN but have forgotten it, you can obtain your UIN from the front of your University ID card or by visiting Claim My UIN.

UIN Administration
