What is stored value and how can I use it on the Urbana campus?

Your i-card has a narrow black stripe on the back, which is referred to as the stored value stripe. The dollar value placed on this stripe can be used for photocopying and printing. You may add funds to the stored value stripe through many of the value card teller machines located around campus. As you use the card, the amount of each transaction is deducted from your card balance. If you lose your card, the remaining dollar value on the card cannot be replaced. For that reason, there is a limit on the dollar amount that can be stored on the card.

On the Urbana campus, you can use stored value at the library, the Illini Union (including the Quad Shop), and the residence halls.

If you choose to store value on your i-card, you can use the funds only on the campus where the card was issued. If you do not have an i-card, you can store value on a value card issued by a value card teller machine. Value cards and machines are administered by Illini Union Campus Vending rather than i-card Programs.

What are extra credits and how do I add them to my i-card account?

Extra credits can be used by anyone with an active i-card to purchase meals. Value added to the Dining Services account are converted to Extra Credits (1 cent equals 1 credit). You can use these credits to purchase Classic Meals and A La Carte items in University Housing Dining Services dining halls.

There is no minimum or maximum transaction amount. Extra Credits are not refundable.

You can add credits to your account online at http://www.housing.uiuc.edu/NCMP/, which can also be accessed from the "Manage i-card $ Accounts" option located on the i-card Web site.

Visa and Mastercard are the accepted forms of payment for online value addition for Urbana. You can place money in your Dining Services i-card account via cash or check at the front desk of any residence hall.
