TCF Bank is the Student Banking Partner for the University of Illinois

TCF Bank offers free checking accounts and other campus banking services to University of Illinois students at the Chicago and Urbana campuses.

TCF Bank is an optional convenience for students with i-cards

If you are a student, you may choose to link your TCF student checking account to your i card and use it as an ATM or PIN-based debit card.

You are not required to open a TCF Bank account, nor do you need one to to use your i-card for other campus card services, such as meal plans, door access, or library services.

TCF Bank offers free financial seminars to University group

Local TCF Bank branch managers are available to present free financial seminars on any of the following topics or others you may suggest:

  • Banking 101. Get a basic understanding of the banking industry, learn about different types of banking products and how to maintain a checking account
  • Banking in the United States. Learn about the United States banking system and its bank regulations, the different types of accounts a typical U.S. bank offers, such as checking, savings, money markets, and certificates of deposits. This seminar also explains how to use an ATM or check card, how to process wire transfers, how to use online banking, write a check, fill out a bank transaction ticket, how to balance a check register and how to endorse checks.
  • Identity Theft. Learn the latest statistics and understand the different types of identity theft that occur, and get practical tips on how to prevent identity theft and what to do if you are a victim
  • Money Management. Learn basic banking terms and how to address and resolve problems that may arise with banking products. Understand the importance of maintaining a budget to avoid debt and establishing credit history.

The TCF Bank partnership benefits students and the University

The University receives financial support through its partnership with TCF Bank, which offers optional student checking accounts linked to i-cards. Financial support is received in the form of annual student scholarships, program marketing support, revenue for accounts opened, reimbursement for i-card supplies, furniture for ID Centers, branch rent and other compensation. The University formed a partnership with TCF Bank after a competitive selection process.
